RESTIA
Restia is a non-profit organization based in Sigri, west Lesvos (GR), dedicated to regional and cultural development. Shaped by peripheral sensibility, care, and the interconnectedness of art, society, and territory (AST), the core of its focus lies in contemporary understanding. Believing in the radicality of contemporary art and the community's ceremonial intentions of bringing people and ideas closer to each other, Restia's mission is to foster contemporary art as both a research and an educational means.
Inspired by our locality, Restia is a greek word for an indefinable wave that comes and brings change to present circumstances. Starting in 2023, Restia keeps up with its endeavors, using interdisciplinary tools such as educational programs, exhibitional content, screenings, performance, and community-engaging work dedicated to enriching the relationships and common ground between artists, institutions, and communities.
By enacting qualities and semantics of techno-social discourses, Restia responds to social and political circumstances and encourages inclusivity through all aspects of its productions and labor. It welcomes an inclusive environment for all participants and visitors.
