Xeno is a biennial contemporary art initiative in collaboration with the Natural History Museum of the Lesvos Petrified Forest held with the support and under the auspices of the Hellenic Ministry of Culture takes place in Sigri, a border village of western Lesvos, where the Petrified Forest is located. Within the framework of the Xeno exhibition the artworks are displayed inside the fossil geopark, next to 20-million-year-old petrified trees that remain in the original place of their roots. The landscape co-curates and contemporary artworks enter into dialogue with prehistory and the anthropocene, infusing their narratives through concepts such as time, resilience, and materiality. Xeno as an initiative seeks to highlight both the interdisciplinarity and the dialectic of contemporary art and It aims at creative confrontations and at the architecture of a hybrid ecosystem between new technologies, artistic outpourings, and an archive of immense cultural and geological heritage preserved in west Lesvos.
